When you enter the lobby you find a magnificent large area filled with bright colors of yellows and blues. This is the type of space only found in historic hotels. The architectural details are breathtaking harking back to the grand structures of Europe when Kings and Queens walked the halls of such grandeur. Although it was a long walk to my room it was well worth it. The king bed with oversized dark wood headboard covered all in white was a through back to the historic past but the glass enclosed shower and magnificent tub was modern. In many historic hotels the bath area remains small and unimpressive but not I the cast of this renovation.
This 4 Star hotel was originally opened in 1852 and in November 1860 Stephen A. Douglas stayed at the Battle House the night he lost the presidency to Abraham Lincoln. More recently the hotel was named “One of the Top 500 Hotels in the World” by Travel + Leisure magazine. Spa at the Battle House also opened that same year.
That evening after having fun on Dauphin Street we made our way back to find a band which was a nice surprise but when we inquired about an item we saw on a menu for another outlet we were told no sorry can’t do that. Then we were told we could walk over and get it to go. We then ordered a specialty drink and was told no because they did not know how to ring them up. On the other had breakfast and in room dinning was outstanding.
I found the service to be focused, warm hearted and detail orientated. The room was spotless; the public space was immaculate not one lamp shade askew, or team member found without a smile. Our rate was $179 and valet parking was only $17 per day placing this in the category of best of the best. This was a quick trip for us and I hope that next time we are able to experience the Spa.
