Double Tree Hotel Downtown Los Angeles

Double Tree Hotel Downtown Los Anegels Review

The lobby of the hotel is well appointed with oversized furniture that fit nicely into the space.  The check in went smooth and I received my warm cookie, a Double Tree signature amenity. Frankly everything was nice but no WOW! in any of the public space. The hall had newer carpet but the 17th floor had three lights out, never a good sign.  I stayed for 3 days and the same lights were out all 3 days.

The room was clean and sported a 45” flat screen TV and had a fridge. The bed was comfortable but the fitted sheets did not fit the king bed and each morning I awoke with the bed pad exposed which is unacceptable. The bathroom was small and the door knob was at an odd height; about four and a half from the bottom of the door.  I purchased Wi-Fi for $9.95 and noted that they charged me twice on my first night because I used an I-pad and then shifted to my laptop. I don’t mind paying for a service I desire but the internet connection was slow and $18.90 is a little much.

In room dinning was room service at best. The server did not asked permission to enter the room, never reviewed my order with me, and did not open the bottle of wine. I asked for lemon in my water…no lemon. The pizza I ordered was under cooked and the hummus was dry and was served in a 1.5 oz. ramekin.   He simply asked “where would you like me to set this?” Once I reviewed the check I noted that they had added the gratuity. Most hotels do add the gratuity but I find it dishonest when the server does let you know that up front.  I called to let the MOD (Manager On Duty) know of my experience and was told he was with a guest but would return my call… never received a call back.

With all the great hotels in downtown LA I would suggest the JW Marriott or the Ritz Carleton.  Both of these hotels are modern and on top of their game. If you’re a Hilton Honor junky like me I would suggest the Hilton Checkers a boutique older hotel.
