Review: Hilton Americas - Houston Texas

First Impressions

Service throughout the hotel was inconsistent, beginning with an unfortunate arrival experience. As I pulled up to the entrance, a valet stopped me by shouting, “Hey, you!”—then pointed at my vehicle and asked if it was mine. When I confirmed, he replied, “Well, are you valet parking or self-parking?” I told him I was self-parking, at which point he demanded my key and warned that I had “10 minutes before I give your vehicle a ticket.” It was an unnecessarily aggressive and unprofessional way to begin a stay at a full-service Hilton.

When I asked for directions to the front desk, he simply pointed toward the doors and said, “It’s in there.”

At check-in, the front desk team was friendly and polite but lacked familiarity with Hilton policies and procedures. Although they did acknowledge my Diamond status, no additional benefits or options were presented beyond a simple “Thank you for being a Diamond member.”

Upon arriving to my room, I opened the door only to find the room attendant still inside—apparently using the bathroom. She screamed, “Close the door, close the door!” I stepped back into the hallway and waited. When she exited moments later, she was extremely apologetic and assured me that the room was clean and ready.

Later, at the lobby bar, service was again uneven. A female bartender walked past me four times without making eye contact or offering assistance. Eventually, a male bartender approached and took my order. The hummus appetizer I ordered was excellent—well-prepared, nicely presented, and generous in portion—but the initial lack of acknowledgment was disappointing.

Room – 4/5

The room was spotlessly clean and well-maintained, offering ample desk space along with power outlets and USB ports. However, there were no USB-C connections, which is becoming standard in modern hotels and represents an area for needed updates.

Service – 2/5

Staff across several departments appeared to need additional training. I did not feel welcomed upon arrival, and the F&B experience also lacked warmth and engagement. Service improved noticeably only in certain areas of the hotel.

Attention to Detail – 5/5

This is where the property excels. Holiday decorations were beautifully executed, and all public areas were immaculate, well-organized, and clearly cared for. The hotel’s aesthetic and upkeep are genuinely impressive.

Amenities – 4/5

The hotel’s restaurants and bars are thoughtfully designed and offer a wide variety of options, though prices are on the higher side—as expected at a large convention property. The gift shop is well-stocked and convenient.

Breakfast is served on the 24th floor in the Executive Lounge. The buffet was hot, plentiful, and offered all standard breakfast selections. The staff in this area were exceptional—warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The standout feature was the espresso machine with multiple flavoring options, delivering a Starbucks-level experience at no extra cost. A definite highlight of the stay.

Overall Score – 4/5
