There are newer hotels and more lavish hotels but for location and value I believe that the Royal Sonesta Hotel is the best hotel deal in New Orleans, LA. This Grand old hotel is located in the French Quarter on the most fun street in the U.S. Bourbon St. It’s built in the traditional French Quarter style, complete with gabled windows, French doors and wrought-iron laced balconies. During the summer the balconies are lined with giant furans and during Mardi Gras lined with bead throwing revelers.
The courtyard features an outdoor pool and deck lined by windows and balconies with old world charm. The fitness room with a Stairmaster, Universal equipment, treadmill and Lifecycle is located nearby.
This hotel has 500 guest rooms +/- (including 35 suites) offer a mini bar, individual climate control, color TV, radio, and phone with voice mail, data-port and conference call features, rooms have irons and ironing boards, in-room safes, hairdryers and make-up mirrors. A lot of emanates but the biggest emanate is the location on Bourbon St. just blocks from Jackson square and within walking distance to shopping, art galleries, restaurants, and 1000 or so bars.
Because the hotel is located in the French Quarter if you arrive in the day time you will note the smells of the night before as they wash down the streets getting ready for another fun filled night. The entrance to the hotel is not grand if you coming from the parking deck but it is clean and well maintained. The bell staff was attentive taking care of our bags post haste and the desk staff was friendly and efficient. The walk to our room past the fountain and fresh flower was pleasant and filled with jazz. The room itself was small but spotless and well appointed.
